Rental Security Subsidy
A Rental Security Subsidy can help if you’re having difficulty paying your rent due to short-term financial challenges.
A subsidy can help you stay in your current rental home or move to a new one. The subsidy covers part of your rent and is paid directly to your landlord or property manager.
There are 2 options:
- Rental Security Subsidy General: rent subsidised for a maximum of 2 years.
- Rental Security Subsidy for young people: rent subsidised for a maximum of 4 years if you are 25 years old or under, and are the primary or legal tenant.
The subsidy is based on factors such as total household income and your circumstances. Your application will need to include evidence of the situation that is affecting your ability to pay rent.
Who can apply
You can apply for a Rental Security Subsidy if you:
- are experiencing financial barriers to maintaining your tenancy, such as:
- additional bills
- health issues
- the sudden loss of employment
- unforeseen caring responsibilities.
